Emergency Siding Tarping in Richmond Heights

When the May 16, 2025 tornado ripped panels off a gable, or a falling limb split open a dormer wall, the sheathing behind the siding is suddenly exposed to every rain that follows. Emergency siding tarping in Richmond Heights, MO covers that open wall fast, so water stays out of the insulation and framing while the permanent repair gets scheduled. Homeowners call Top Quality Exteriors when the wind has passed and a bare patch of house wrap is flapping above the brick line. Wet insulation and swollen sheathing can show up within days.

On a brick home, the walls that fail are the ones that aren’t masonry: gables, dormers, soffit, fascia, and trim in Hampton Park, Berkshire, and Maryland Terrace. We cover the opening with a heavy-duty tarp fastened to solid framing, then photograph the damage for your adjuster. Our crews plan around the steep driveways and tight curbs of older Mid County streets. If the cladding underneath is torn or cracked rather than gone, the next move is siding repair in Richmond Heights, and the tarp protects the wall until then.

When Exposed Walls Need a Tarp

  • Missing or torn siding panels with bare house wrap showing
  • Exposed sheathing or insulation after a tree or limb strike
  • Wind-opened gaps at gable ends, dormers, soffit, or fascia

Tarping Brick Homes After Storms

The EF3 tornado that tracked through Richmond Heights on May 16, 2025, with winds near 150 mph, dropped uprooted trees on roofs and walls from Hampton Park to the Big Bend and Hanley corridor, and it peeled siding, soffit, and fascia loose in spots no ladder had touched in decades. The St. Louis metro also sits in one of the country’s most active hail corridors, with three to five significant hail events a year, so wall damage rarely arrives alone. For a wall tarp we cut heavy-duty polyethylene to the opening, lap it over intact house wrap so water sheds outward, and pin it under lath strips screwed into studs or solid sheathing, never into crumbling mortar joints. Narrow streets and steep driveways in 63117, 63143, and 63144 mean we stage ladders and materials before anyone climbs. If a limb also holed the roof above, our emergency roof tarping in Richmond Heights work can cover that plane too, so water can’t run down the wall behind the tarp.

Our 5-Step Tarping Process

Here is how an emergency siding tarp call runs in Richmond Heights, from the first ring on our 24/7 Emergency Response line to a written plan for the permanent repair. Every step is built around keeping water out of your wall, start to finish.

Call Our Line

Call our 24/7 Emergency Response line and tell me what you see. I ask for your address, which wall is open, and where water is getting in. Then we line up a crew and plan access.

Assess the Wall

I check the exposed elevation from the ground first. Gables, dormers, and soffit get a look for missing panels and wet sheathing. Safety on steep drives and curbs comes first.

Cover the Wall

We cut a heavy-duty tarp to the opening and lap it over sound house wrap. Lath strips fasten it to framing, never to brick or mortar. The wall sheds rain the moment we finish.

Document Damage

Before we leave, I photograph every torn panel, bare patch, and wet spot. Each shot is dated for your claim file. Your adjuster gets a clear record of exactly what the storm did.

Plan the Repair

We walk you through the photos and the next move. Siding repair, matched replacement, or both depends on what we find behind the tarp. You get a written scope of work to review.

Licensed, Insured Storm Siding Crew

Top Quality Exteriors is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor and a James Hardie Alliance Program Member, founded in 2022 with 7+ years of industry experience on our team. We’re licensed in Missouri and carry general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, which matters with a ladder against a wet, tornado-damaged gable. Our emergency line is staffed after hours, while the office keeps regular hours of 8 to 5 on weekdays and 9 to 3 on Saturdays.

A tarp is protection, not a repair, and we say so up front. The permanent fix carries our 36-month workmanship warranty, with up to a lifetime warranty available on selected products, and manufacturer warranties vary by the siding installed. For Richmond Heights homeowners, that means one team that can seal the wall tonight and rebuild it with James Hardie fiber cement, vinyl, or matched trim once your adjuster signs off. Ask us what the repair may need from the city.

Temporary Siding Cover and Cost

The cost to tarp a wall depends on how much sheathing is exposed, how high the opening sits, and how hard the driveway makes it to set a ladder, so we quote after seeing the damage rather than from a phone description. Homeowners policies often treat emergency protection as a covered step after sudden wind or hail damage, but your policy language controls, so confirm it with your carrier. Keep our dated photos and your receipts together for the claim.

Check your policy for its filing deadline and start the claim early, while the damage is fresh. Photos taken before and after the tarp goes on show the adjuster exactly what the storm did to the wall and which sections still need repair. Once the wall is covered, storm damage siding repair in Richmond Heights is the next step, and we can attend the adjuster’s inspection. Hearth and GreenSky financing is available for the portion insurance doesn’t cover.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our 24/7 Emergency Response line is staffed after hours, and we can cover an exposed wall to keep rain out of the sheathing and insulation behind it. Call (314) 618-8888 any time of day, then we plan the crew and the access. A tarp is temporary protection, so once the wall is dry and photographed we move toward the permanent repair and loop in your adjuster.
The price depends on how much wall is open, how high it sits, and how easily we can get ladders in on narrow streets and steep driveways. A small gable patch costs less than a full elevation stripped by wind, and a tall Tudor gable takes more crew time than a low wall. We look at the damage first and quote the job in person, then document everything so the cost fits cleanly into your claim.
Bare sheathing soaks up rain like a sponge, and wet OSB or plank boards swell, then rot or grow mold behind the wall. House wrap alone is only a temporary weather barrier and tears easily in wind. A properly fastened tarp over the opening buys you time, and we check the sheathing for moisture before new house wrap and siding go on, since trapped dampness rots wood later.
Many homeowners policies cover reasonable emergency protection after sudden wind, hail, or tornado damage, but your policy language decides, so call your carrier. Take photos before and after the tarp goes on, and keep receipts. We provide dated photos and a written damage record that your adjuster can check against the wall. Missouri lets you bring a contractor to the adjuster meeting.
A heavy-duty tarp is a bridge, built to hold for weeks, not through a full season of sun, wind, and freeze-thaw. Plan the permanent repair as soon as your claim and material order allow. If a seam lifts or a fastener pulls before then, call us and we will look at it. Hail or a second storm can also loosen it. Then we schedule matched siding, trim, and flashing work.
Yes. Even on brick bungalows and Tudors, gables, dormers, soffit, fascia, and trim are often wood or siding, and a tornado or limb strike can strip them bare. That small area is where rain gets behind the brick and into the framing. We tarp those exposed sections, then plan a repair that matches the home’s original look. Old wood fascia holds moisture longer than you’d think.

I was referred by a relative, and I'm glad I asked. They did great work, communicated well about everything, and the one issue I had was addressed quickly and efficiently. I am glad that I went to this company. Not only would I use them again, I would refer them to friends and loved ones. Pleasant workers who work hard, and customer satisfaction is obviously a priority.

I am extremely grateful that I contacted Top Quality Exteriors for my projects. They did a great job, continuously kept me posted on the work with daily photos, and were timely and professional at a very competitive and fair price!! While other contractors were not interested in my relatively small projects (soffit and dormer repair), TQE came out the day I called to give me a bid. They also went above and beyond. I not only had soffit repair work needed, but a birds next was built into the soffit opening. After inspecting my soffit to provide a bid, Bryan, my TQE representative, asked me if I had a yard bag. He climbed back on the roof and removed the nest. He then used materials from his truck to go back up on the roof to close off the hole until it could be repaired. All this on a late Friday afternoon when most contractors would be looking to start their weekend. Because of this, the great quality work, and the friendly and professional employees, I will always contact Top Quality Exteriors for any future projects, large or small. I HIGHLY recommend them!!!!

The overall experience was great. Their responses are quick and detailed, and the images provided of the condition of the roof before, during, and after repair gave me confidence in the work that was being done. They did a thorough job of explaining the scope of work, including a change order that was required when additional damage was found to the sheathing of the roof. They were transparent about their pricing and were respectful throughout our interactions. Overall I’m satisfied, and hopeful that the quality of the work will show over time.
