Asphalt Shingle Roofing in Richmond Heights

If a May 2025 wind event stripped tabs off your roof or your 1930s Tudor on Berkshire has started leaking at a brick chimney flashing, asphalt shingle roofing in Richmond Heights is still the fastest, most cost-effective way back to a watertight, warranty-backed home. Top Quality Exteriors installs quality architectural shingles sized for the steep, cut-up multi-gable roof planes that define pre-war brick homes off Big Bend near the Galleria. We handle permitting where the city requires, re-decking under old plank sheathing, and insurance paperwork from day one.

Our crews pull the old shingles, inspect every plank or sheet of decking, and swap any soft or split boards before fresh synthetic underlayment and ice & water shield go down at eaves and valleys on every slope. We then set an architectural asphalt shingle with code-correct starter, drip edge, step and counter-flashing at brick chimneys, and ridge vents sized to the attic. Impact-resistant options are available if that fits your home, and our roof replacement page walks you through the day.

Why Richmond Heights Picks Us

  • 36-month workmanship warranty on every tear-off we install
  • Owens Corning Preferred Contractor with BBB A+ accreditation
  • Free inspections and insurance claim help for Richmond Heights

Built for Pre-War Brick Homes

Richmond Heights sits in one of the country’s busiest hail corridors, with three to five significant hail events every year and the May 16, 2025 EF3 tornado still fresh in local memory. That mix of straight-line wind, hail, and freeze-thaw cycles pulverizes aging three-tab roofs on the 1930s bungalows and Tudors clustered around Hampton Park and Maryland Terrace. For storm-prone roofs we offer impact-resistant architectural shingles from Owens Corning as an upgrade, and we encourage you to ask your insurance carrier whether an impact-rated shingle qualifies for a premium discount on your policy. Our installers hand-nail at ridges, follow the shingle manufacturer’s fastening pattern for steep pitches, and run ice & water shield at eaves and in valleys so freeze-thaw cycles cannot push water back under the eaves of your home. If a hail-rated asphalt shingle is not enough for a Berkshire or Hampton Park home, our metal roofing page covers the historic-look path.

Our 5-Step Shingle Process

Here is exactly what you can expect from the first phone call to the final cleanup. Each step is designed to protect your pre-war brick home, keep the city permit on file, and leave zero surprises before we hand you a signed workmanship warranty.

Free Roof Visit

I meet you at the house and walk every slope with a magnet nail finder. I shoot photos of hail hits, lifted tabs, and all flashing gaps. We then review options in your driveway.

Shingle Selection

You pick a color from the on-site Owens Corning samples laid against your brick. I walk you through architectural and impact-resistant options. We lock in the shingle for you.

Permit & Prep

We handle permitting where the city requires; confirm requirements with your city. We tarp shrubs, protect the AC unit, and stage the dumpster off your narrow drive so trucks fit.

Tear-Off & Set

Crews strip old shingles, replace soft deck boards, and lay ice & water shield at eaves. Then architectural shingles go on with six nails per shingle and new flashing at brick.

Cleanup & Sign

I sweep the yard twice with the magnet and haul off every nail and tear-off strip we pulled. Then we walk the roof and attic together. You sign the 36-month workmanship warranty.

Local Credentials That Matter

Top Quality Exteriors was founded in 2022, and our owner-led crew carries 7+ years of industry experience installing architectural shingles across Mid County, from inner-ring Richmond Heights to the older brick housing just south of Clayton and east of Hanley Road. We are an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating, licensed in Missouri and Illinois, with general liability and workers’ comp carried on every job.

Every tear-off on a 1930s brick home gets the same treatment: we handle permitting where the city requires it, the deck is inspected plank by plank, and the chimney flashings are rebuilt in step and counter format right at the mortar line. We back the install with a 36-month workmanship warranty on every job, with extended warranties up to lifetime available on selected products. No cut corners on brick-to-roof details or the final nail sweep.

Real Pricing & Insurance Help

Honest answer on price: asphalt shingle roofing in Richmond Heights varies with roof size, pitch, number of gables and valleys, and the condition of the deck underneath. Older Tudors with steep multi-gable planes, dormered valleys, and plank re-decking land higher on labor and material than a simple ranch roof. We walk the roof, measure the squares, and hand you a flat written quote on site. Simpler layouts covered on our residential roofing page come in lower.

If the May 16, 2025 EF3 tornado or any later hail or wind event damaged your roof, we can usually run the project through your insurance carrier from first call to paid invoice. We can join the adjuster meeting when you invite us, photo-document the damage, write a trade-standard scope, and make sure nothing is missed on the brick flashings or steep valleys. Hearth and GreenSky financing are available for homeowners paying out of pocket.

Frequently Asked Questions

A quality architectural shingle installed over a sound deck should hold 25 to 30 years on a Richmond Heights roof, and impact-rated upgrade lines from Owens Corning often carry longer hail warranties. Mid County trees, freeze-thaw cycles, and summer heat on dark asphalt roofs cut real-world lifespan a few years short of the number printed on the shingle box.
Cost varies with roof size, pitch, number of gables and valleys, and the condition of the deck underneath. Steep 1930s Tudors with multiple gables, dormers, and plank re-decking land higher than simple ranch roofs on both labor and material. We walk the roof, measure the squares, and hand you a flat written quote on site at the free inspection, with no surprise line items added later.
Yes. If the May 2025 EF3 tornado or any later hail event damaged your Richmond Heights roof, we photo-document every hit, write a trade-standard scope, and can join the adjuster meeting on site when you invite us. We handle supplements, depreciation release, and the final paperwork so your out-of-pocket is typically just the deductible on most approved claims.
On a Mid County roof, often yes. Impact-resistant shingles from Owens Corning shrug off pea-to-golf-ball hail that would bruise a standard 25-year three-tab. Ask your insurance carrier whether an impact-rated shingle qualifies for a premium discount on your policy, because some do and some do not. Over a long hold on a storm-prone roof, the upgrade usually pays off well before mid-life.
Often yes. Many pre-war Richmond Heights homes were built with plank or skip-sheathing instead of solid plywood decking, and those boards can split, cup, or soften under decades of leaks. On tear-off day we inspect every board, replace what fails, and sister where joints landed poorly. Re-decking is quoted by the sheet so you only pay for what we actually swap.
Usually, yes. Most municipalities require a building permit for a full re-roof or major repair, and Richmond Heights is no exception. We handle permitting where the city requires it and recommend you confirm the current requirements with the city before work begins. The permit paperwork, posting, and final inspection sign-off is work our office coordinates so you never need to call city hall.

I was referred by a relative, and I'm glad I asked. They did great work, communicated well about everything, and the one issue I had was addressed quickly and efficiently. I am glad that I went to this company. Not only would I use them again, I would refer them to friends and loved ones. Pleasant workers who work hard, and customer satisfaction is obviously a priority.

I am extremely grateful that I contacted Top Quality Exteriors for my projects. They did a great job, continuously kept me posted on the work with daily photos, and were timely and professional at a very competitive and fair price!! While other contractors were not interested in my relatively small projects (soffit and dormer repair), TQE came out the day I called to give me a bid. They also went above and beyond. I not only had soffit repair work needed, but a birds next was built into the soffit opening. After inspecting my soffit to provide a bid, Bryan, my TQE representative, asked me if I had a yard bag. He climbed back on the roof and removed the nest. He then used materials from his truck to go back up on the roof to close off the hole until it could be repaired. All this on a late Friday afternoon when most contractors would be looking to start their weekend. Because of this, the great quality work, and the friendly and professional employees, I will always contact Top Quality Exteriors for any future projects, large or small. I HIGHLY recommend them!!!!

The overall experience was great. Their responses are quick and detailed, and the images provided of the condition of the roof before, during, and after repair gave me confidence in the work that was being done. They did a thorough job of explaining the scope of work, including a change order that was required when additional damage was found to the sheathing of the roof. They were transparent about their pricing and were respectful throughout our interactions. Overall I’m satisfied, and hopeful that the quality of the work will show over time.
