Metal Roofing Services in St. Louis, MO

Owning a century-old St. Louis home means learning fast that asphalt shingles rarely make it through our hail-heavy summers and freeze-thaw winters without a callback. Homeowners from Dutchtown to Lafayette Square are asking about metal roofing in St. Louis because they want a system that outlives the mortgage, sheds wind-driven hail, and tucks cleanly against brick parapets and dormered gables. At Top Quality Exteriors, we fit standing seam, snap-lock, and exposed-fastener panels to city housing — brick two-flats and Victorian gables alike.

A properly detailed metal roof pays off for decades on this housing stock. Standing seam panels come with a Kynar 500 finish, hidden clips that let the metal expand through hot, humid summers, and 24-gauge steel or Galvalume that shrugs off the hail St. Louis logs three to five times a season. On pitched-roof pockets in Bevo Mill or Holly Hills we run full panel roofs; on flat-and-porch combinations we blend metal with the existing membrane. If you are comparing options, our asphalt shingles in St. Louis page covers the shingle side by side.

Why Metal Roofing Fits St. Louis

  • Standing seam, snap-lock, and exposed-fastener panel systems
  • Kynar 500 finishes in every historic-district color you need
  • Snow guards, ridge caps, and flashing detailed for city roofs

Metal Panel Systems We Install

Not every metal roof belongs on every St. Louis home, so we scope each job before we quote. Standing seam is our workhorse — 24-gauge steel or aluminum with a Kynar 500 finish, hidden clips that let the metal grow and shrink through 100-degree July afternoons and single-digit January mornings, and snap-lock seams that stay watertight over Soulard rowhouse gables and Tower Grove dormers. Exposed-fastener panels like R-panel and corrugated are the value choice for a detached garage or carriage house on a Dutchtown lot. Copper accents — bay window caps, turret peaks, dormer flanks — are still the right call on Lafayette Square Victorians, where the city Preservation Board expects like-for-like restoration. On the flat porches, dormer valleys, and low-slope additions common to city housing, we tie metal into the existing membrane with proper drip edge and closed valleys so hail and freeze-thaw cannot find a seam. See our slate roofing in St. Louis page to compare heritage material.

Our Metal Roofing Process

Every metal roof we install in St. Louis follows the same five steps, whether it is a full standing seam on a Bevo Mill bungalow or a copper cap on a Lafayette Square dormer. Here is what happens from your first call to the final walkthrough.

Free Inspection

We visit your St. Louis home, climb the roof, and check every plane. Photos and measurements go into a written scope you can hold. There is no charge for the visit or the report.

Panel Selection

Next we match a panel to your home — 24-gauge standing seam, snap-lock, or exposed fastener. Color, gauge, and profile fit your block. We map drip edges and snow guards on paper.

Written Estimate

You receive a line-itemed quote covering material, labor, tear-off, and permit costs. Financing through Hearth or GreenSky is on the table. Every question is answered up front.

Full Installation

Our crew strips the old roof, inspects the decking, and lays fresh underlayment. Metal panels go on with hidden clips to spec. Every ridge, valley, and rake flashing gets tight.

Final Walkthrough

We walk the property with you, hand over warranty paperwork, and clean every scrap. Our 36-month workmanship warranty starts the day you sign. Post-install calls get answered fast.

Why St. Louis Trusts Our Crew

Top Quality Exteriors is a family-run crew founded in 2022, with 7+ years of industry experience across the ownership team. We hold a BBB A+ rating, carry general liability and workers’ comp on every job, and stay licensed in Missouri and Illinois so we can chase storm work wherever the metro takes us. Owner Mario Granados walks the tough jobs personally, and our 52-plus team members keep small residential swaps and full standing seam installs both moving on schedule.

Metal is not a stock-and-slap install in a city where every historic district reviews material changes. We coordinate with the City of St. Louis Building Division on permits and, in Soulard or Lafayette Square, walk paperwork through the Preservation Board before we cut a single panel. Our installers know how metal ties into brick parapets, coping stones, and rear-addition dormers — the exact junctions where St. Louis leaks start. You get a real answer, not a script.

Metal Roofing Costs in St. Louis

Metal is a premium install, and honest pricing is the least you deserve. In St. Louis, a full residential metal roof runs $6.10 to $13 per square foot, or about $12,000 to $26,000 for a standard home; a high-end standing seam job on a complex city home can push toward $33,000. Exposed-fastener panels sit at the value end, standing seam in the middle, and copper accents at the top. Every quote we write breaks material, tear-off, labor, and permits out separately.

The payoff shows up over time. A properly installed metal roof holds 50 years or longer against St. Louis hail — three to five significant events a season on average — while asphalt shingles are typically pulled after 20. Metal reflects summer heat, cuts attic load, and pairs cleanly with insulation upgrades to lower cooling bills. If storms do hit, our commercial roofing in St. Louis team handles multi-family and mixed-use claims.

Frequently Asked Questions

A standing seam metal roof in St. Louis typically runs $6.10 to $13 per square foot installed, which puts a standard home at $12,000 to $26,000 and a complex historic home closer to $33,000. Exposed-fastener panels come in lower; copper accents cost more. Every quote we write itemizes material, labor, tear-off, and permits so you can see exactly where dollars land.
A properly installed metal roof lasts 50 years or longer on a St. Louis home, roughly two and a half times the 20-year lifespan homeowners see out of asphalt shingles in this climate. Kynar 500 finishes resist fading, hidden clips handle freeze-thaw movement, and 24-gauge steel or Galvalume shrugs off the routine hail our storm season delivers each spring.
Metal wins on lifespan, hail resistance, and energy savings; asphalt wins on upfront cost. For a homeowner planning to stay in a St. Louis brick two-flat or bungalow more than 15 years, metal usually pencils out over the second re-roof cycle. For a shorter horizon, quality architectural shingles are still a solid pick. We are happy to price both options side by side.
Yes — the City of St. Louis Building Division requires a permit any time roofing material changes or more than 25% of the decking comes off, and a metal install almost always triggers both thresholds. Historic districts add a Preservation Board review before the permit issues. We pull the permit and handle every piece of paperwork for you before the crew arrives.
In most cases, yes. Standing seam and copper are period-appropriate on Lafayette Square Victorians and older Central West End stock, and the Preservation Board is used to reviewing them. The trick is matching profile, color, and flashing to the original design so the reviewer signs off quickly. We prepare the submittal and coordinate the whole process.
Sometimes, but not usually the right call in St. Louis. Layer-overs mask deck rot, add weight to old framing, and rarely satisfy the City permit rules once material changes. On most city homes we tear off to the deck, replace rotten sheathing, and install fresh underlayment before the panels go on. That process earns the warranty and protects the interior brick.

I was referred by a relative, and I'm glad I asked. They did great work, communicated well about everything, and the one issue I had was addressed quickly and efficiently. I am glad that I went to this company. Not only would I use them again, I would refer them to friends and loved ones. Pleasant workers who work hard, and customer satisfaction is obviously a priority.

I am extremely grateful that I contacted Top Quality Exteriors for my projects. They did a great job, continuously kept me posted on the work with daily photos, and were timely and professional at a very competitive and fair price!! While other contractors were not interested in my relatively small projects (soffit and dormer repair), TQE came out the day I called to give me a bid. They also went above and beyond. I not only had soffit repair work needed, but a birds next was built into the soffit opening. After inspecting my soffit to provide a bid, Bryan, my TQE representative, asked me if I had a yard bag. He climbed back on the roof and removed the nest. He then used materials from his truck to go back up on the roof to close off the hole until it could be repaired. All this on a late Friday afternoon when most contractors would be looking to start their weekend. Because of this, the great quality work, and the friendly and professional employees, I will always contact Top Quality Exteriors for any future projects, large or small. I HIGHLY recommend them!!!!

The overall experience was great. Their responses are quick and detailed, and the images provided of the condition of the roof before, during, and after repair gave me confidence in the work that was being done. They did a thorough job of explaining the scope of work, including a change order that was required when additional damage was found to the sheathing of the roof. They were transparent about their pricing and were respectful throughout our interactions. Overall I’m satisfied, and hopeful that the quality of the work will show over time.
