Asphalt Shingle Roofing Built for St. Louis

Your brick bungalow in Bevo Mill or up on The Hill likely still carries a pitched asphalt roof, and after twenty years of Missouri hail and freeze-thaw pounding, granule loss and cracked sealant strips are showing across the field. Top Quality Exteriors installs asphalt shingle roofing in St. Louis that stands up to the three to five significant hail cells this metro absorbs every single year without fail. Every job starts with a full tear-off to the plywood so we can inspect decking, correct old ventilation gaps, and rebuild the entire system properly.

Older South City homes near Tower Grove Park and Carondelet often need a full roof replacement in St. Louis, not another patch, because layered shingles and undersized attic ventilation shorten the life of anything installed over the top of them. We pull permits directly with the City Building Division, coordinate historic-district review when the property falls under Preservation Board scope, and back every shingle install with our firm 36-month workmanship warranty on all labor and workmanship.

Why Our Shingle Systems Outlast

  • Class 4 impact-resistant shingles that earn insurance credits
  • Ice and water shield at eaves, valleys, and penetrations
  • Synthetic underlayment and ridge vents for balanced airflow

Shingle Systems We Install Here

We work almost exclusively with laminated architectural shingles, not three-tab, because the wind ratings, hail warranties, and dimensional profile hold up better on the pitched roofs still common across Holly Hills, Carondelet, and the mid-century pockets on the far south edge of the city. Owens Corning Duration Series remains our workhorse line, sealed with SureNail Technology, rated for 130 mph winds, and available in Class 4 impact-resistant grades that qualify for Missouri hail-discount credits on many homeowners policies. For Victorian gable roofs in Lafayette Square, we carry designer profiles that mimic slate or shake without the labor cost, and we always match the ridge cap, drip edge, and pipe boot colors to the field shingles. If a homeowner is weighing a longer-lifespan material, we walk them through metal roofing in St. Louis as a real side-by-side comparison, because asphalt is the right answer for most homes here, but honestly not every single one.

Our Shingle Roofing Process

Every asphalt shingle job we run in St. Louis follows the same five-step sequence, whether the roof is a small Bevo Mill bungalow or a two-story home over near Carondelet Park. Here is how a shingle project moves from first call to final punch-list.

Free Inspection

We climb the roof, walk every slope, and photograph each detail the same day you call us. Attic decking, ventilation, and flashing get checked. Then we hand you the full report.

Written Estimate

Within one business day we send a line-item quote covering tear-off, decking, and new shingles. Every brand and color option is spelled out. Financing terms sit in the same packet.

Material Delivery

Shingles, underlayment, and accessories land at your curb the morning we start. We protect landscape, gutters, and A/C units with tarps. Then the crew stages tools up on the roof.

Shingle Install

We strip the old roof to the deck, swap any soft plywood, and lay ice-and-water shield at eaves and valleys. Underlayment goes down next. Then shingles nail in from eave to ridge.

Final Walkthrough

We magnet-sweep the yard for stray nails, haul off every scrap, and walk the roof with you before we sign off. You get final photos and warranty paperwork. The job closes clean.

Why St. Louis Homeowners Trust Us

Top Quality Exteriors was founded in 2022, and our team brings seven-plus years of combined roofing experience across South City brick homes. As an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor and BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating, we back every shingle system with a manufacturer warranty and a firm 36-month workmanship warranty. We hold licenses in both Missouri and Illinois and carry full general liability and workers compensation coverage on every crew.

Our 52-plus person team keeps schedules tight and shows up when we say we will, whether the project is one home over on Chippewa or a five-home block near Carondelet Park. We answer the phone at (314) 618-8888 during business hours and staff a real 24/7 emergency line for storm calls that cannot wait until Monday morning. If a leak opens up after we have handed the job over, one of our own team members returns the same day to make it right.

What Asphalt Shingle Roofing Costs

Most asphalt shingle projects in St. Louis city land between $10,000 and $13,000 for a 2,000 square foot home, or roughly $4.00 to $6.50 per square foot installed once tear-off, underlayment, decking repair, and cleanup are baked into the number. Steep pitches, multiple valleys, dormers, and layered tear-offs on pre-1940 stock all shift the total upward, while a simple ranch on the far south edge often comes in a bit lower on the number.

Financing through Hearth and GreenSky is available for qualified homeowners, and most people spread the roof across three to seven years at a rate that keeps monthly payments in a familiar comfortable range. Insurance-funded work after a hail or wind event usually leaves you paying only the deductible, which typically runs between $1,000 and $2,500 on most homeowner policies. See our residential roofing in St. Louis hub for the full material comparison first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Standard architectural asphalt shingles carry 20 to 30 year warranties, but real lifespan in the St. Louis metro tends to run 18 to 22 years because hail cells, ice storms, and freeze-thaw cycles pull the numbers down. Class 4 impact-resistant grades hold up longer and often earn insurance credits, and a yearly free inspection helps catch damage early enough to preserve them.
For a 2,000 square foot home in the city, expect $10,000 to $13,000 for a full architectural shingle replacement, or roughly $4.00 to $6.50 per square foot installed. Steep pitches, tear-offs of layered roofs on pre-1940 South City homes, and premium impact-resistant lines push the total higher. Financing through Hearth and GreenSky is available for qualified buyers.
Yes. Class 4 impact-resistant asphalt shingles are the highest hail rating in the industry, and most Missouri homeowners insurance carriers offer a premium credit between five and thirty percent when you install them. The exact discount depends on the carrier and policy tier. We help you pull the manufacturer certificate your insurer needs to file the credit.
For a like-for-like asphalt shingle replacement on a residential home in the city, the Building Division exempts jobs where 25 percent or less of the sheathing is replaced. If more decking comes off or the material changes, a permit is required. Historic districts add a Preservation Board layer. We handle all paperwork and pull whatever permits your address needs.
Owens Corning Duration Series is our most-installed line because SureNail Technology, a 130 mph wind rating, and Class 4 impact grades match what St. Louis hail seasons actually throw at a roof each spring. CertainTeed Landmark and GAF Timberline HDZ are both quality options too. We walk you through color, warranty, and price differences before you commit.
Yes, and we handle the Cultural Resources Office review for you before we pull any permit. Neighborhoods like Lafayette Square, Soulard, and Compton Heights all fall under Preservation Board scope, which means shingle color, profile, and street visibility can be scrutinized. Getting the paperwork right up front keeps the timeline predictable and avoids rework.

I was referred by a relative, and I'm glad I asked. They did great work, communicated well about everything, and the one issue I had was addressed quickly and efficiently. I am glad that I went to this company. Not only would I use them again, I would refer them to friends and loved ones. Pleasant workers who work hard, and customer satisfaction is obviously a priority.

I am extremely grateful that I contacted Top Quality Exteriors for my projects. They did a great job, continuously kept me posted on the work with daily photos, and were timely and professional at a very competitive and fair price!! While other contractors were not interested in my relatively small projects (soffit and dormer repair), TQE came out the day I called to give me a bid. They also went above and beyond. I not only had soffit repair work needed, but a birds next was built into the soffit opening. After inspecting my soffit to provide a bid, Bryan, my TQE representative, asked me if I had a yard bag. He climbed back on the roof and removed the nest. He then used materials from his truck to go back up on the roof to close off the hole until it could be repaired. All this on a late Friday afternoon when most contractors would be looking to start their weekend. Because of this, the great quality work, and the friendly and professional employees, I will always contact Top Quality Exteriors for any future projects, large or small. I HIGHLY recommend them!!!!

The overall experience was great. Their responses are quick and detailed, and the images provided of the condition of the roof before, during, and after repair gave me confidence in the work that was being done. They did a thorough job of explaining the scope of work, including a change order that was required when additional damage was found to the sheathing of the roof. They were transparent about their pricing and were respectful throughout our interactions. Overall I’m satisfied, and hopeful that the quality of the work will show over time.
